CAPTURE / Academic Initiatives

Clinical Pharmacology GRADE Group

An independent academic initiative focused on methodological challenges in assessing clinical pharmacology evidence.

METHODOLOGICAL FOCUS

Developing methods for complex evidence.

The Group examines how GRADE methods can be applied or further developed for questions in clinical pharmacology and pharmacotherapy, including evidence beyond conventional head-to-head trials.

Areas of inquiry

  • Assessment of certainty in indirect evidence for therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) and pharmacogenomics (PGx)
  • Causal attribution of adverse drug events and related certainty of evidence
  • Very large observed effects in small populations and how they inform certainty judgments
  • Additional methodological questions arising from clinical pharmacology research

ACADEMIC EXPERTISE

Complementary expertise in methods and medicines.

The international Steering Committee draws on academic perspectives from Canada, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and China. Expertise spans GRADE and evidence-based medicine, clinical pharmacology and pharmacy, TDM, PGx and guideline development. The institutions concerned are members’ professional affiliations, not organizational sponsors or endorsements of CAPTURE.

ACADEMIC RELATIONSHIP

Independent methodology, complementary applications.

The Clinical Pharmacology GRADE Group concentrates on methodological development. The International Clinical Pharmacology EBM Group focuses on guidelines, application and implementation. The two initiatives retain independent academic judgment.
